Fiorentina is poised to outbid Stade Rennes with a €15 million offer for Lecce midfielder Marin Pongracic, who showcased his talent at EURO 2024 representing Croatia. The versatile player is capable of performing in various positions such as center-back, right-back, or defensive midfielder. Despite interest from Bologna and Napoli, the main battle for Pongracic was always between Fiorentina and Rennes. Sportitalia reports that Fiorentina is on the verge of securing his services by matching Rennes’ offer. The club is hopeful that they have convinced Pongracic to choose Fiorentina over a move to France.
Pongracic is expected to fill the void left by Nikola Milenkovic, who is on the brink of joining Nottingham Forest. Lecce acquired Pongracic from Wolfsburg in 2022, initially on loan before making the deal permanent for €1.6 million. His football journey includes stints at the Bayern Munich youth academy, RB Salzburg, and Borussia Dortmund.
