Juventus is close to finalizing the signing of Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona. His ability to play in multiple positions suggests he could be the next Riccardo Calafiori for Thiago Motta at Juventus.
Cabal, a defender from Verona, has undergone medical tests in Turin ahead of a €12m transfer, including add-ons. While primarily a left-back, he has also played as a center-back, showcasing his versatility.
Reminiscent of Bologna’s Calafiori, who transitioned from left-back to center-back under Motta, Cabal’s arrival in Turin signals potential for a similar transformation.
Motta, set to be unveiled as Juventus’ new coach, is likely to share his plans for Cabal during his introductory press conference.
Despite differences in their price tags, with Cabal’s deal at €10m plus €2m add-ons and Calafiori’s expected move to Arsenal for over €50m, the two defenders share similarities in their playing styles.
Cabal saw increased playing time at Verona last season due to the team’s financial constraints. While his passing accuracy may not match Calafiori’s, his defensive stats are comparable.
Although a year older than Calafiori, Cabal presents Juventus with a more affordable option. While his trajectory may not mirror that of Calafiori, Motta will work with him in hopes of achieving similar success.
