Leonardo Bonucci regrets Juventus missing out on Arsenal target Riccardo Calafiori

Former Juventus and Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci expressed regret over the potential missed opportunity for the Old Lady to secure the signing of Riccardo Calafiori, a player coveted by Arsenal. The Gunners have set their sights on the Bologna star as a key target for their quest to acquire a left-footed defender this summer.

Calafiori, a 22-year-old talent, had a standout season in Serie A, contributing to Bologna’s qualification for the Champions League after a 60-year absence. Despite Italy’s lackluster performance in Euro 2024, Calafiori’s standout moment was providing the crucial assist for Mattia Zaccagni’s late equalizer against Croatia.

Reports indicate that Calafiori is open to a move, and negotiations between Arsenal and Bologna have reportedly made progress. Bonucci, who recently retired from professional football, expressed his disappointment at Juventus potentially missing out on the former Roma man.

“I’m sorry about his transfer. I would have liked to see him at Juventus. He’s a defender who’s a little different to what we’re used to seeing,” he stated.

“He plays, has personality and fits in. We’re exporting a great player who will be a point of reference for the national team for the next 15 years.”
