Chelsea have now entered the race alongside Tottenham Hotspur to secure the signature of Federico Chiesa from Juventus. The winger has been given the green light to leave Juventus as he is not part of new manager Thiago Motta’s plans for the upcoming season.
At 26 years old, Chiesa is entering the final year of his contract with Juventus, making him potentially available for a discounted fee as the club seeks to raise funds for their summer squad overhaul. Despite being a target for Premier League clubs following his standout performance during Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, his progress was hindered by an ACL injury that limited his playing time in the following seasons.
Chiesa made a strong comeback last season, scoring 10 goals in 37 appearances for Juventus, who finished third in Serie A and clinched the Coppa Italia. Both Chelsea and Spurs are reportedly interested in acquiring Chiesa, with the player set to return to Juventus for pre-season training soon.
Chelsea is in search of another winger after failing to secure the signing of Michael Olise, while Spurs have had success with previous acquisitions from Juventus like Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur. However, competition for Chiesa is expected to be stiff, with Serie A clubs like Roma also expressing interest.
