Juventus is under scrutiny for their decision to put Federico Chiesa up for sale, as this move may force them to reduce their asking price. However, they cannot go below €15 million or risk incurring a financial loss.
Although it was already known that Chiesa was not in their plans for the current season, coach Thiago Motta confirmed after a recent friendly match that there is no chance of him returning to the team.
Chiesa has several potential destinations, including Napoli and Inter in Serie A, as well as reported interest from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
Criticism has been directed at Juventus for making their intentions so clear, as it could be seen as a sign of desperation and lead to lower offers, especially with Chiesa’s contract set to expire in June 2025.
The price tag for Chiesa has significantly dropped, with Juventus initially paying €12.6 million to loan him from Fiorentina in 2020, with an obligation to buy for an additional €44.6 million two years later. Taking into account amortization and his net salary of €5 million per season, the minimum amount Juventus can sell him for without incurring a loss is €14.9 million, a far cry from the €25-30 million they had hoped for earlier in the summer.
