Inter Milan is actively pursuing the signing of Sampdoria’s young talent, Giovanni Leoni, without concern for competition from Juventus and Napoli, as reported by Italian news outlet FCInterNews. The Nerazzurri recently engaged in discussions with Sampdoria executives to further negotiate the deal, with Leoni being a top target for this summer’s transfer window.
Recognizing the potential in the 17-year-old defender, Inter sees Leoni as a promising player who can develop into a top-tier defender. Despite his limited experience in senior football, Leoni made a strong impression after breaking into Sampdoria’s first team last season.
Having been on loan at Sampdoria from Padova, the Ligurian club exercised their option to purchase Leoni for €1.5 million, indicating their confidence in his abilities. Should Sampdoria decide to sell Leoni this summer, reports suggest they would demand a minimum of €5 million, if not more, reflecting a significant profit compared to their initial investment.
While other clubs like Juventus and Napoli have shown interest in Leoni, Inter has taken significant steps towards securing his signature. The Nerazzurri’s strategy involves signing Leoni and potentially loaning him back to Sampdoria, allowing him to gain more experience in a familiar environment. Talks between Inter and Sampdoria are ongoing, with both clubs not rushing to finalize the deal but making progress towards reaching an agreement before the end of the transfer window.
Despite the competition from Juventus and Napoli, Inter remains confident in their pursuit of Leoni, with FCIN reporting that the Nerazzurri are undeterred by the presence of other interested parties.
