Gleison Bremer, a reported defensive target for Manchester United, has recently signed a new deal with Juventus, extending his stay with the Italian club. This comes as a blow to United, who were in need of defensive reinforcements, especially after the injury to 18-year-old prospect Leny Yoro during a pre-season match against Arsenal.
United had been eyeing other center-back options, including Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich, but Bremer was also on their radar. Previous reports had suggested that United were willing to pay €50 million to acquire Bremer from Juventus and increase his salary to €10 million a year. The Brazilian himself expressed interest in playing in the Premier League, adding fuel to the transfer speculation.
However, recent developments indicate that United will not be able to secure Bremer’s services as he has chosen to stay with Juventus. According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bremer has signed a new contract with Juventus, keeping him at the club until June 2029. The release clause in his contract will also increase in value from the summer of 2025.
While United may have missed out on Bremer this summer, the presence of a release clause suggests that the player still wants some control over his future. This leaves the door slightly ajar for United to potentially revisit their interest in the future.
