Poland’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34, shortly after his contract with Juventus ended. In an emotional statement on Instagram, he expressed that while his body may still be up for the challenge, his heart is no longer in the game, prompting him to prioritize his family.

During his career, Szczesny earned 84 international caps, with his final appearance at Euro 2024 where he started for Poland in their first two group matches but was rested for the last game against France. He played for top clubs like Arsenal and Juventus, reflecting on his journey that began when he left Poland for Arsenal in 2006.

Szczesny’s time at Juventus saw him win three Serie A titles and three Italian Cups, keeping 103 clean sheets in 252 matches for the club. Following the mutual termination of his contract with Juventus on August 14, there were speculations linking him to a potential move to a club in Saudi Arabia.

In his farewell message, Szczesny expressed pride in having played alongside some of the greatest players in history and dedicating 18 years of his life to the game without any excuses. His retirement marks the end of a remarkable career filled with achievements and memories on the football pitch.
