Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri had difficulty making sense of the result following his team’s 2-1 loss to Lecce.

The capital club appeared as if they were going to run away with the game after Ciro Immobile scored early in the first half. However, the Biancocelesti wasted numerous chances to add to their lead which ultimately came back to haunt them.

Lecce scored twice in the second half to secure all three points and stun Lazio, who suffered their fourth defeat of the season.

“For a year and a half we’ve been wondering what happens to us during certain stretches,” said Sarri during his post-match press conference.

“We showed a lot of quality in the first half but then all signs were pointing to a drop-off towards the end of the half. We lost the ball way too much and our mentality was passive.”

“I have to start taking into consideration how superficial our team can be at times. Ultimately, who do we think we are? Aside from Pedro, I don’t see a single player that has won everything and can afford to be too casual.”

Finallyy, “Fatigue from the World Cup? This World Cup was an abomination, a huge pest. I’m a proponent of Boxing Day fixtures, we should’ve played on December 26th, January 1st and January 6th.”
