With the transfer window open and Serie A set to resume after a 60-day layoff, Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri admitted his squad faces a lot of unknowns this month.

The former Chelsea boss was asked about his team’s prospects ahead of their return to the pitch tomorrow when they face-off against Lecce—confessing he isn’t sure what to expect.

“Beyond the COVID stop, we’re experiencing an unprecedented situation,” Sarri told reporters earlier today.

“It’s a strange situation and there’s no way to predict how certain teams are going to react after being off for two months—just look at some of the result abroad.”

“We’re facing an aggressive team in Lecce that has put in a lot of work and done very well against the big teams. They have to be held in regard. As for us, some players are in a better place than others.”

“The transfer market? I’m not sure if it’s open for us or not. The president has been busy the past few days but I’ll speak with him once he returns. I’m not sure we’ll be able to make a splash that raises the overall level of the team.”

Sarri also addressed the situation surrounding midfielder Luis Alberto. The Spaniard is pushing to leave the club this month after failing to secure a transfer during the summer months with Sevilla rumored to be extremely interested.

“I’ve read in some places that Luis Alberto wants to leave because he had a row with the manager, but this isn’t true,” he stated.

“Before I joined the club he asked for a transfer then skipped the first portion of our summer training camp. I’m aware his desire is to return to Spain and it’s a situation the club must deal with—we can’t do anything about it.”

“But this doesn’t affect the harmony within the group. We can’t be bothered by the outside noise in the newspapers.”
