Juventus Shows Interest in Another Star Atalanta Midfielder
Despite the disappointment with the Teun Koopmeiners deal, Juventus is looking to engage in more business with Atalanta, targeting Mateo Retegui, Ademola Lookman, and Ederson, according to reports from TuttoSport.
Specifically, Juventus explored the possibility of signing the Brazilian midfielder in January. Although Cristiano Giuntoli contacted director Tony D’Amico, Atalanta was not willing to part ways with him at that time. Ederson could potentially be the next valuable asset for Atalanta.
Juventus will face competition from several Premier League teams, particularly those based in Manchester, in their pursuit of Ederson. Atalanta has already turned down a €40M offer from an English club.
The 25-year-old midfielder may seek a move to a top club in the upcoming summer transfer window, following the footsteps of some of his former teammates. He has contributed 4 goals and 2 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions this season.
Our Perspective on Juventus and Ederson
Given the challenges faced with the previous acquisition of a Dutch player, Juventus may want to approach dealings with Atalanta cautiously. It has been observed that some former players have struggled to adapt after leaving the Bergamo-based club. Additionally, Juventus already has a solid midfield lineup, making it necessary for them to make room for Ederson by potentially offloading Douglas Luiz or Weston McKennie.
As for Atalanta, it appears likely that Lookman will be departing soon for various reasons. However, it would be beneficial for the club to retain their other key players, even though it may require offering higher salaries to keep them.
