Midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli officially made his return to the pitch for the first time since his mid-April knee injury.
The 25 year-old was back on the field for Fiorentina tonight in their 6-1 friendly victory against Swiss side Lugano, scoring the team’s final goal in the closing stages of the clash.
He last featured for La Viola on April 16th when he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee and subsequently underwent surgery to repair the ligament a week later.
“It’s a unique emotion,” he told Viola TV. “I shed a few tears after the goal towards the end.”
“I’m very happy, it’s been a long path to get here but it’s finally over. Before continuing I want to dedicate a though to Gianluca Vialli, we’re all close to him right now.”
“From day one I told myself coming back from this injury was a challenge but I never gave up and got a lot of strength from my wife and family.”
Finally, “As for my role, let’s leave it to the manager. First off, my teammates are doing really well and I’ve got to get back into form and work on playing in this formation.”
“Then we’ll let the manager make his decisions. We had a good campaign before the World Cup break and we have to pick-up where we left off because we’re a strong team.”
