Former Lecce midfielder Morten Hjulmand’s spectacular goal secured a 1-1 draw for Denmark against a lackluster England team, who failed to capitalize on Harry Kane’s early goal.
Jude Bellingham’s goal had previously secured a narrow 1-0 victory for England against Serbia, prompting manager Gareth Southgate to field the same starting lineup. Meanwhile, Denmark made some changes following their own 1-1 draw with Slovenia, with a strong presence of Serie A players including Victor Kristiansen from Bologna, former Atalanta duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joakim Maehle, and ex-Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen.
The match began quietly, but Harry Kane managed to score from close range after Bologna full-back Kristiansen was caught out by Kyle Walker’s cross. Morten Hjulmand then equalized for Denmark with a stunning long-range strike that found the back of the net via the inside of the post.
Despite England coming close to regaining the lead with a Phil Foden shot that hit the woodwork, it was Denmark who looked more likely to snatch the win as the game progressed, with England’s intensity fading.
In other Group C action, Serbia salvaged a late 1-1 draw against Slovenia.
