Atalanta’s impressive run of form continued this afternoon after they swept aside hosts Empoli, winning 2-0 in Tuscany.

Hans Hateboer and Ademola Lookman were on the scoresheet for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, who temporarily move up to second place in the Serie A table with 27 points, five behind league leaders Napoli.

The victory also helped La Dea set a club record for the most wins and points earned through the first twelve rounds of Serie A, moving to 27 points and a record of 8 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss.

Meanwhile, Empoli’s season-long goalscoring woes haunted them again this afternoon.

Only Sampdoria have scored less goals than the Tuscans this season. They’ve only found the back of the net nine times this season and lack a consistent attacking presence.

In their previous five matches, Empoli ended a match with an xG (expected goals) of at least 1.0 only once—further highlighting their scoring inability.

“We can’t lose faith in what we’re building,” manager Paolo Zanetti told DAZN after the match.

“Atalanta is a really good team. We showed good spirit and I have no complaints about our attitude despite the difficult week we had.”
