Former Roma player and executive Federico Balzaretti has announced his departure from Udinese after just one season as the club’s technical director. The 42-year-old’s contract was terminated by mutual consent, bringing an end to his short tenure with the Friulians that began last summer.
In a surprising move, Udinese revealed that Balzaretti’s replacement would be former midfielder Gokhan Inler, who previously spent four seasons with the club from 2007 to 2011. Inler’s experience both on and off the pitch will bring a new perspective to the technical director role as Udinese looks to improve and build on their recent performances.
Balzaretti, in a brief statement released on Udinese’s official website, expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters following a challenging season that nearly saw the team facing relegation. Despite the difficulties, Balzaretti highlighted the resilience and determination shown by the players and staff in securing their Serie A status.
“It was a difficult, painful season, lived with emotion until the last breath, but in the end we made it,” Balzaretti said. “I want to embrace all of Udinese: the Pozzo family, the general manager Collavino, the coaches, staff members, players and all areas of the club. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the fans and to all of Udine for their support and passion. I wish everyone a great future.”
As Balzaretti bids farewell to Udinese, the club looks ahead to a new chapter under the leadership of Gokhan Inler. With a fresh perspective and renewed energy, Udinese aims to continue their growth and success in the upcoming season. The fans and supporters eagerly anticipate the changes and improvements that Inler will bring to the club as they strive for further achievements in Serie A.
