Fiorentina Makes Strategic Move by Signing USMNT Midfielder Cardoso

IF24 Desk

Fiorentina is reportedly interested in signing Johnny Cardoso, a midfielder who currently plays for Real Betis and the US Men’s National Team, according to Sky Sport Italia. Cardoso, who also holds an Italian passport, could potentially join Fiorentina as an EU player without occupying a non-EU slot.

Although Cardoso has been linked with clubs like Juventus and Roma, Fiorentina appears to be actively pursuing him for a summer transfer. The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Real Betis in January 2024 from Brazilian side Internacional for €6m, is now valued at €25m by his current club.

Cardoso, who will turn 23 in September, has represented the USMNT in 15 senior international matches and has featured in 19 games for Real Betis, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Born in New Jersey to Brazilian parents, he returned to Brazil at a young age and developed his skills playing for Internacional.
