Fiorentina’s director general, Alessandro Ferrari, is gearing up for the Conference League play-off against Puksas Akademika and has issued a warning that they are not currently in a position to sell Nico Gonzalez to Juventus. The match will take place at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence at 19.00 UK time (18.00 GMT), with the second leg scheduled for next Thursday to determine the team advancing to the tournament proper.
Fiorentina has been a strong contender in the last two editions of the trophy, reaching the Final in 2023 and 2024, but ultimately falling short against West Ham United and Olympiacos. Ferrari expressed the team’s determination to build on their past performances, stating, “We start this season with many changes, from the coach to the tactical system, some players who already arrived, others who are coming. We want to improve what we did last season.”
The director also highlighted the significance of the Conference League as an opportunity for growth and development, emphasizing the challenges faced in the play-offs last year and their aspirations for a successful campaign this season. Fiorentina made notable changes to their lineup, including giving David De Gea his debut and incorporating Lucas Beltran into the starting XI.
Despite the team’s preparations, negotiations with Juventus for the transfer of Nico Gonzalez remain ongoing. Ferrari clarified the current situation, stating, “The situation is that there are eight days to go in the transfer window. Right now, we don’t have the right conditions to make the transfer, so we’ll see what happens. We are missing the basic foundations of the deal.” He further emphasized Fiorentina’s desire to retain Gonzalez and expressed confidence in their stance, stating, “We’d be very happy to keep Nico, so we have no need to sell. We’ll see what happens, but we are very, very relaxed and are waiting to see if the right conditions emerge.”
When questioned about the potential asking price for Gonzalez, Ferrari refrained from disclosing specific details, stating, “I cannot say.”
