Former Fiorentina and Italy national team boss Cesare Prandelli maintained he won’t return to coaching after he unexpectedly left La Viola in 2021 citing mental health struggles.

The 65 year-old didn’t rule out returning to football in some capacity, but he insisted he won’t resume his three-decades long managerial career.

“There’s always a passion for football but I don’t miss being on the bench and I won’t be returning,” explained Prandelli to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“Leaving football did a world of good for me, I wasn’t depressed but I felt anxious and lonely especially when sport stopped due to COVID.”

He continued, “I must thank Fiorentina who were incredibly understanding. Now I’ve rediscovered the joy of normality.”

“I wouldn’t rule out returning to football but it’d only be done in a different role.”
