Sampdoria earned their first victory at home in Serie A this afternoon, winning 3-1 over Hellas Verona in an crucial fixture for Serie A’s relegation race.

Now sitting nine points from safety, the Blucerchiati earned a vital three points in their fight for salvation. Attacker Manolo Gabbiadini scored twice in the first half and helped lead the hosts to their first win in over two months.

On the other side, the defeat dealt Hellas Verona a huge blow given a win would’ve put the Venetian side only two points behind 17th place Spezia.

“This win means so much,” manager Dejan Stankovic told Sky Sport at full time. “We have to dedicated this win to our supporters, who have been fantastic all season.”
