Greenwood seals Marseille transfer, overcoming hurdles with Lazio, Napoli, Juventus.

IF24 Desk

Mason Greenwood has reportedly agreed to move to Olympique Marseille from Manchester United, bypassing potential interest from Lazio, Napoli, and Juventus. The transfer fee between Marseille and Manchester United had already been settled last week, but Greenwood had been hesitant, causing uncertainty for all involved.

The delay in Greenwood’s decision was partly due to backlash from the Mayor of Marseille and fans who expressed opposition to his arrival at the Ligue 1 club because of past domestic abuse allegations. Despite this, Lazio, Napoli, and Juventus were still in contention to sign the Manchester United player.

However, recent reports suggest that Greenwood has now accepted the transfer and finalized personal terms, making the deal practically complete. Both Sky Sport Italia and Footmercato have also corroborated this information. While he still needs to undergo a medical examination and sign the contract, the main hurdles have been cleared for Roberto De Zerbi’s team.

The agreed fee for Greenwood’s move amounts to €27.6 million plus €4 million in potential add-ons, with Manchester United entitled to up to 50% of any future transfer fees. The process now requires Greenwood to travel, complete the medical assessment, and officially sign the contract. The development marks a significant step forward following the initial agreement reached between Marseille and Manchester United last week. A tweet from @TheAthleticFC encapsulates the latest progress in the deal.
