Inter shot-stopper André Onana has left Cameroon’s World Cup squad following a row with manager Rigobert Song.
Onana was absent from the team’s 3-3 draw against Serbia today despite playing all ninety minutes in their opening group fixture last week against Switzerland (a 1-0 loss).
Multiple reports claim Song clashed with the 26 year-old regarding his playing style, asking him to play the ball more directly. Though, he was short on details when asked about the situation after today’s draw.
“He is an important player but we are in a difficult tournament,” stated Song during his post-match press conference.
“The issue is that Andre has now been left out for disciplinary reasons. In a group, you need to expect the rules apply to everyone. Also, I prefer that the team takes precedent over individuals.”
He added, “I think it’s a decision that had to happen. Everyone I picked today was capable and those not selected didn’t want to play a part but I’ll leave it to everyone else to judge.”
