Juventus in negotiations for Jonathan David amid contract expiry speculation

Juventus’ sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has reportedly begun negotiations to secure the signing of Jonathan David on a free transfer at the end of the current season. The Lille striker’s contract is due to expire in June 2025.

David, who scored 26 goals in 47 appearances for Lille last season across all competitions, has attracted interest from various top European clubs, including several in Italy.

According to reports from Tuttomercatoweb, Giuntoli has reached out to David’s representatives to discuss the potential terms of the deal. Despite being available on a free transfer, signing David would still involve significant financial commitments.

Last summer, Lille were willing to sell David for a fee in the range of €20-25 million. However, his agent’s demands, including a €5 million signing bonus and a salary of nearly €6 million per year, caused several teams to reconsider their interest. The agent’s commission could be even higher next summer when David can sign for free.

Juventus’ decision on whether to pursue David will be influenced by the performances of Dusan Vlahovic this season. Vlahovic, the Serbian striker, has scored two goals in his first five Serie A matches under Thiago Motta. However, talks to extend Vlahovic’s contract, which expires in June 2026, are currently at a standstill.
