Juventus is gearing up for their return to the Champions League on Tuesday, 17 September at 18:45 CEST, as they prepare to face PSV in their opening match at the Allianz Stadium. This new format of the competition features eight League Phase matches against different opponents.

Looking back at some memorable Matchday 1s from the past, we remember Juventus’ 2-1 victory against Galatasaray in the 2003/04 Champions League. Alessandro Del Piero’s brace set the tone for a tough match at the ‘Delle Alpi’ Stadium, with the Bianconeri securing a somewhat fortunate win with a late goal.

In the 2014/15 Champions League, Juventus faced Malmo and emerged victorious with a 2-0 win. Carlos Tevez was the hero of the match, scoring two crucial goals to seal the deal and send a strong message to their group opponents.

Fast forward to the 2015/16 season, Juventus faced Manchester City in a thrilling encounter that ended in a 2-1 victory for the Italian side. Despite an own goal by Giorgio Chiellini, goals from Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata turned the game around in an impressive display of skill and determination.

In the 2020/21 Champions League campaign, Juventus kicked off their journey with a 2-0 win against Dinamo Kyiv. Alvaro Morata’s brilliance on the field secured the three points for Juventus in a cold weather match, setting the tone for a successful group stage campaign under the guidance of coach Andrea Pirlo. Thiago Motta is also set to make his coaching debut on the Champions League stage, as Juventus aims to continue their European success.
