Round 25 in Serie A got off to a hot start tonight as Lazio shocked Napoli in Campania, winning 1-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
Midfielder Matias Vecino broke the deadlock in the 67th minute with a thunderous volleyed strike from outside the area—handing the Partenopei their first home defeat of the season.
Although ecstatic for the result, Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri urged his side to put the result in the rearview and set their sights on the upcoming Conference League clash versus AZ Alkmaar.
“I told the the team we have to put this one in the back of our minds because we’re back on the pitch in three days,” he told Lazio Style Channel.
“Obviously we had a match where we applied everything very well and attained a result that satisfies both the coaching staff and supporters.”
Adding, “Though, from a technical point of view we can still do better. I drilled into the lads before the match that they’re capable of getting a result in Naples and they did it.”
“We conceded very little to a team that was on an incredible run of results and goalscoring at home.”
