Lazio president Claudio Lotito reassured supporters about the club’s transfer market approach during a discussion with a set of Biancocelesti fans.
Lotito was asked about the club’s slow start to the summer transfer window but insisted the side are being smart in their method.
“Lo Celso, Paredes, Cuadrado, and Bonucci all wanted to join us, but we said no,” said Lotito according to Il Messaggero.
“Big names don’t guarantee sporting success on the pitch. The transfer market has to be approach with intelligence.”
He continued, “Then there’s (Napoli midfielder Piotr) Zielinski. He’s 29 years-old and his contract expires in less than one year: given that, how much would you pay for him?”
“I offered Napoli a transfer fee worth €20 million plus bonuses for him but they rejected it. But now the offer will be reduced if you weren’t willing to accept the initial proposal on day one.”
