Serie A’s sporting judge handed down his punishment after a faction of Lazio supporters were caught shouting racist chants during the team’s 2-1 defeat yesterday versus Lecce at the Stadio del Mare.

Audible throughout the match, the group aimed their vile abuse towards Lecce pair Lameck Banda and Samuel Umtiti, who was visibly upset by the ordeal. Despite warnings over the stadium’s loudspeaker, the racist choirs were constant until full-time.

As a result, Lega Serie A’s sporting judge banned Lazio’s Curva Nord for one match, ruling the sector of the Stadio Olimpico can not be occupied during their next home match.

The Biancocelesti return home on Sunday afternoon when they host Empoli.
