In a shocking announcement, Lecce revealed they’ve parted ways with manager Marco Baroni—ending his two-year stint with the club.
Despite comfortably staving-off relegation, the Puglia-based side declared the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement on a new contract which forced the split.
“Following meetings between the club and Marco Baroni and his representatives, we inform you the parties didn’t reach an agreement to extend the contractual relationship beyond the June 30th deadline,” Lecce wrote on their website.
“The proposal made by Lecce to continue together for another season but with a pay increase to both the manager and his staff wasn’t accepted.”
“We thank the manager and his staff for two extraordinary years together which included promotion to Serie A and salvation in the following season.”
