Manchester United are facing a critical deadline to secure the permanent signing of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina. The club has until the end of the week to activate their option to buy the Moroccan midfielder, who was initially loaned for €10 million in August. An additional €20 million payment to Fiorentina is required as per the agreed buyout clause.
Fiorentina, anticipating a decision, have not included Amrabat in their squad for the Viola Park retreat until United’s option expires. However, there has been no indication from the Red Devils regarding their plans to trigger the buyout clause. This uncertainty has led to a stalemate in Amrabat’s future, with no other clubs presenting concrete offers either.
If United fails to act by the deadline, Amrabat is expected to return to Fiorentina next week to prepare for the upcoming season, as he still has two years left on his contract with the Italian club. Fiorentina’s sporting director, Malu Mpasinkatu, commented on the situation by stating, “Amrabat is an important player for Fiorentina when he is in good condition. However, if he doesn’t feel mentally motivated anymore, it’s best to explore other options.”
This situation puts pressure on United to make a decisive move to secure Amrabat’s services permanently. Failing to do so could result in missing out on a player who has the potential to strengthen their midfield, an area that has been under scrutiny.
