Milan president Paolo Scaroni confessed he still believes the team can win the Scudetto this season before elaborating on the club’s stadium plans.
The Rossoneri sit second in the table, eight points behind league leaders Napoli, but Scaroni is adamant they can reduce the gap once play resumes after the new year.
“I see everyone (at the club) optimistic, from Paolo Maldini to Stefano Pioli—so why shouldn’t I be?” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
He also addressed the contractual situation of star Rafael Leao. The two sides have been in talks regarding a new deal but still haven’t found a agreement.
“They tell me that in Milano and at Milan he is very happy, that he is motivated,” admitted Scaroni.
“I know that Maldini is negotiating and as far as I have just said, if he’s negotiating, I’m relaxed.”
Finally, he discussed the club’s stadium plans and if he’d be open to potentially refurbishing the San Siro.
“We’ve got to grow and that begins with new facilities,” he said. “Having a conservative approach in football is equivalent to shooting yourself in the foot.”
“The public debate regarding the new stadium just ended and we’re waiting for a report from the Municipality within a few weeks. We’ll implement any feasible changes they suggest.”
“Though, if they ask for major overhauls? No thanks. As far as renovating San Siro, it’s technically impossible.”
“There is no stadium as large or close in capacity within thirty kilometers. When San Siro would become unusable, where do we move the teams?”
