Monza president and former Milan chief Silvio Berlusconi is slowly recovering in intensive care after undergoing treatment for pneumonia brought on by a recent leukemia diagnosis.

San Raffaele hospital in Milan provided an update on the 86 year-old earlier today after he was initially admitted to the facility last Wednesday.

His doctors, Alberto Zangrillo and Fabio Ciceri, stated they’ve noticed improvement over the past hours and are optimistic regarding his recovery.

“Over the past 48 hours there has been a progressive and steady improvement in the functionality of organs being monitored,” they said.

“Cytoreductive, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory therapies are producing the expected results, allowing us to express a cautious optimism”.
