Monza got back to winning ways this afternoon, winning 2-1 over Empoli at the U-Power Stadium.
Armando Izzo sealed the Brianzoli’s first home victory of the season in 67th minute when he headed home from a perfectly delivered corner from Gianluca Caprari.
The win increased the newly promoted side’s point total to 32 on the season—in the three-points-for-a-win era, only one Serie A debutant has done better: Chievo Verona in the 2001/02 campaign with 40 points.
“This was a great victory,” admitted Monza manager Raffaele Palladino at his post match press conference.
“It was a very balanced game so it’s difficult to say one team deserved to win more than the other. I was worried about how we’d react today, especially psychologically.”
He continued, “After the loss to Salernitana, I had fears coming into this game. Tactically we did well today, especially with creating depth.
“Our attackers sacrificed themselves and were willing to serve as the first defenders. They deserve praise for this.”
