Jose Mourinho was pleased with his side’s reaction after a difficult week. Roma scored twice early in the first half to win 2-0 tonight over Empoli at the Olimpico.

The Giallorossi endured a turbulent week and a half thanks to Nicolo Zaniolo’s transfer request before subsequent defeats to Napoli in the league and Cremonese in the Coppa Italia.

“Tonight we played with the best possible formation,” the Special One told DAZN at full time.

“We saw this team play 30 minutes tonight which were utterly perfect. Afterwards we dropped a bit in terms of intensity. Why? I think it’s due to something in our nature.”

The capital club were led up front by duo Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala. The Englishman fired home from Dybala’s pinpoint delivery, with the former Juve man assisting on both goals tonight.

“Tammy? There was a small period where I had some doubts, some concerns,” Mourinho admitted.

“They weren’t about his quality but more-so him personally. He would get very down on himself if he didn’t score and his overall contribution dropped off.”

Adding, “Now even if he doesn’t score, his contribution is important. In the second half he did everything perfectly.”

“He had great link-up play with Dybala tonight. He’s clearly enjoying a good spell.”
