Just two days after his team’s heavy defeat against Monza, Paulo Sousa was officially dismissed by Salernitana on Tuesday evening—ending his eight-month tenure with the club.
In his place, the club announced the appointment of former Bologna, Venezia, and Benevento boss Pippo Inzaghi, who last coached at Serie B side Reggina but left in July due to the team’s financial issues.
The news comes as little surprise after Salernitana president Danilo Iervolino and sporting director Morgan De Sanctis weighed up the possibility of a managerial switch during the current international break.
Iervolino was frustrated with the team’s poor performances to start the season after he invested heavily in the team during the summer. Salernitana currently sit 19th in the Serie A table with just three points and are still searching for their first victory of the season.
