Filippo Inzaghi met with the media this afternoon after he was formally unveiled by Salernitana as the club’s new manager.
The Campania-based side announced Inzaghi’s appointment following the dismissal of Paulo Sousa, who was sacked yesterday due to the team’s poor performances to start the season. With the team sitting second from bottom in the table and still without a win, Inzaghi admitted he’s ready to embrace the challenge that awaits him.
“I had said that I wanted to take a break, but Salernitana’s call was overwhelming,” Inzaghi began, his words resonating with determination. “If Salernitana gets relegated, we all get relegated.”
He confessed his decision to join Salernitana was motivated not only by the club, but also by the passionate supporters.
Recalling his time with Venezia in Serie B, he admitted the club’s Stadio Arechi was always a difficult place to play due to the non-stop enthusiasm of the fans before adding, “I was the one to convince the club to select me.”
When asked about tactical strategies, Inzaghi remained pragmatic. “I have been sacked with any formation and won with any formation. It’s about numbers,” he asserted.
“My aim is to bring back the enthusiasm and conviction and help the team play a bit more carefree again. They need to realise they can compete with anyone.”
