PSG Loan Limits Delay Kolo Muani Transfer to Juventus

Kolo Muani’s move to Juventus is currently on hold due to a technicality, despite him completing his medical and signing a contract with the club a few days ago. The delay is not due to any issues between the two parties but rather because PSG has already reached their limit of six players on loan, as reported by Corriere della Sera.

Ligue 1 implemented these loan restrictions earlier than Serie A, which will start enforcing them from the next summer transfer window, following FIFA’s introduction of the rule in 2022. PSG has already loaned out six players over the age of 21, including Renato Sanches, Nordi Mukiele, Carlos Soler, Juan Bernat, Xavi Simons, and Lucas Lavallée.

Despite this setback, Kolo Muani’s transfer to Juventus is not in danger. The terms of the deal will remain the same, with Juventus not acquiring him permanently during the January transfer window. The resolution lies with PSG, who will need to find a solution before Saturday’s match against Napoli.

The delay in finalizing the transfer meant that Kolo Muani missed out on potentially playing against Milan, as Dusan Vlahovic was unable to start due to fitness issues. Juventus’ director Cristiano Giuntoli and coach Thiago Motta reassured that the delay was simply a matter of time and administrative procedures.

Juventus will have to wait for PSG to either sell or recall one of their loaned players in order to formally complete the signing of Kolo Muani. Lavallée, currently playing at Aubagne in the Championnat National, is seen as the most likely candidate for recall.

It appears that PSG may have misunderstood the rule before agreeing to another loan deal. There may have been confusion regarding whether Simons, as a homegrown player, would count towards the quota, but age is the only determining factor.
