Roberto Mancini has stepped down as the head coach of the Italian national team–less than ten months before Euro 2024.

In the early hours of today, Mancini opted to tender his resignation and end his five-year reign as manager of Gli Azzurri, according to Sky Sport. The Italian federation confirmed the news this afternoon and announced their intention to unveil Mancini’s replacement in the forthcoming days.

Assuming the helm in 2018, Mancini steered the Azzurri to an unprecedented victory in the Euro 2020 tournament. However, their European crown was overshadowed by his inability to qualify for World Cup 2022.
