It’s been a chaotic week at Salernitana following Sunday’s embarrassing 8-2 defeat versus Atalanta.
The club sacked manager David Nicola on Monday but made a u-turn less than 48-hours later, officially reappointing him on Wednesday.
“I promised transparency when I arrived here so I think it’s necessary to explain,” president Danilo Iervolino stated during a press conference yesterday.
“We all believe this team has been built well but it’s currently going through a period where there’s a lack of physicality and concentration.”
“In our last match, we suffered an out of the ordinary drubbing that gave us the senses there’s a serious sense of unwillingness on the team’s part. As a result, I believe we had to change the course of our technical project by changing the coach, a guy I respect very much.”
He added, “Around one hundred managers offered themselves to us after we made our decision and we began to ponder the identikit we sought in a new coach.”
“But something happened yesterday that’s unique in the world of football. The coach spoke with Morgan De Sanctis, who spoke highly of him and revealed the coach had a message for me.”
“Nicola expressed his desire to get straight back to work. He told me important things about the city, supporters, and what he can still do for this club.”
Finally, “You only realise how much you love someone once they’re done. So for the good of the club, the players and everything, it’s only right he’s given another chance.”
