The managerial situation at Salernitana has been clouded in mystery over the previous 48-hours due to Paulo Sousa drawing interest from other clubs.
Appointed in February, the 52 year-old led the Campanian side to an impressive record of 4 wins, 9 draws, and 3 defeats–easily avoiding relegation in the process.
He initially signed a six-months contract with a club option to automatically renew the deal for an additional season. However, Sousa possesses the option to veto the club option should be prefer to join another club.
Although the club have already exercised the option, they’re still waiting on Sousa to confirm whether or not he’ll remain next season. Due to this, sporting director Morgan De Sanctis is already reaching out to alternate options.
According to TuttoSalernitana, one of names contacted by De Sanctis was former Napoli manager Rafa Benitez. Discussions are still at an early stage but Salernitana could accelerate within the coming days.
