Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri and defender Alessio Romagnoli were critical of the team’s drop in concentration in the latter moments of their 2-2 draw versus Empoli.
The Tuscans scored twice in the final ten minutes, including an injury time equaliser, to stun the Biancocelesti, who are winless to begin the new year, at the Stadio Olimpico.
“Finishing in the top four would be a miracle for us,” stated Sarri during his pre-match press conference.
“Right now our objective is to get out of this tough moment. This match was different than the loss to Lecce, we were in control nearly the entire game. However, we got too exposed and allowed the opponent to score on a counterattack.”
Adding, “There was also a bit of bad luck in that final episode. We didn’t fall into the same traps as we did against Lecce but this result is still hard to digest.”
Romagnoli echoed his manager’s sentiments, claiming the team lacks a killer instinct.
“We were up 2-0 and had plenty of chances to score more but then they scored from the first chances they got,” he told DAZN.
“Perhaps we’re lacking something, a bit of nastiness to see of the game. We can’t afford any drops in concentration.”
Finally, “But now isn’t the time to panic, we need to stay calm and continue with what we’re doing.”
