Sassuolo CEO and transfer chief Giovanni Carnevali admitted earlier today he expects a heated transfer race for the signature of midfielder Davide Frattesi.
The Italian international has been the Neroverdi’s most pivotal players over the previous two seasons and is expected to leave this upcoming summer.
Frattesi previously expressed his desire to return to boyhood club Roma and nearly finalised a reunion last summer. However, the club ultimately kept held of the player following the departures of Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca.
“Fortunately we’re not in an open transfer market period,” Carnevali told Tuttomercatoweb.
“A complicated and odd period ended for us once the January transfer window closed. It’s because every time it’s open Sassuolo tends to get into a bit of difficulty.”
He continued, “We’re well aware of the fact Frattesi will receive important offers just as he did last year. And it’s true Roma were very close to bringing him back.”
“Our relationship with the Giallorossi is strong, you don’t have to look any further than all the deals we’ve done in recent seasons such as (Riccardo) Marchizza, (Lorenzo) Pellegrini, and Matteo Politano.”
Finally, “Due to his characteristics, I think Frattesi is a player who can one day aspire to play to play at the highest level in the Premier League.”
“There’s no doubt going to be some heated transfer talks for him this summer.”
