SPAL president Joe Tacopina cited his close relationship to Daniele De Rossi when asked about his decision to appoint the former midfielder as the club’s new coach.
The Serie B side unveiled the 39 year-old last week as their new coach after they sacked Roberto Venturato following their defeat against Frosinone.
“Daniele is a natural born leader,” Tacopina explained to RomaPress.net.
“He’s someone I’ve been very close with for thirteen years. When we were at Roma together, I saw a unique set of leadership qualities in him.”
Adding, “When he was still playing, it was like having a manager with you on the pitch.”
De Rossi debuted on SPAL’s bench on Saturday afternoon, drawing 0-0 against Cittadella.
