Milan manager Stefano Pioli admitted his team’s clash against Roma tomorrow evening is worth more than just three points.
Sitting level in the table with 56 points, the Giallorossi host the defending champions at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday with both sides vying for top four finish.
“We need to give continuity to our performances and ensure we treat the each upcoming game as the most important one, which is exactly what tomorrow is,” Pioli said during his pre-match press conference.
“Tomorrow’s game is worth double and we need to approach it with the right spirit and conviction. It’s a match that’s worth a lot. The season is dwindling but we have three games remaining against direct rivals for a top four place.”
“Obviously the more points we earn, the better our chances at finishing in a Champions League place–our grand objective.”
He continued, “We know Roma well but need to be careful in the areas they’re strong in: such as set pieces, where 40% of their goals come from.”
“They’re also strong defensively. In seven home matches in 2023 they haven’t conceded a goal. Meanwhile, their players in attack are capable at scoring in a moment’s notice.”
“We’ll have a few guys missing like (Tommaso) Pobega and (Alessandro) Florenzi but others such as (Olivier) Giroud feel good and are ready.”
Finally, “We’ll have to try and keep control of the game. The team is doing well and they’re motivated to have a strong end to the season. I like when my team goes on to the pitch with clear ideas and a strong spirit.”
