Milan manager Stefano Pioli paid his respects earlier today as the funeral of Sinisa Mihajlovic was held at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri in Rome.
The former Fiorentina, Bologna, and Serbia national team boss was laid to rest following his passing on Friday after a nearly three-year battle with leukaemia.
“I met Sinisa many times even though we weren’t particularly close,” Pioli told Sky Sport.
“We faced each other as opponents and would chat with each other for a few minutes before and after the match. He was an example of courage and tenacity when faced with a tough situation.”
He added, “All the affectionate words we’ve seen over the last few days prove he was a highly regarded man. He’s left an endearing sign of strength.”
