Andrea Sottil likely saved his job this afternoon thanks to Udinese securing their first victory in over a month.
The Zebrette won 1-0 over Empoli thanks to an early second half goal by Rodrigo Becão, snapping their six-match winless streak in Serie A.
The two sides traded a flurry of shots, ending the clash with 31 in total. Nonetheless, the visitors were the only ones to find the back of the net and grab all three points.
“We deserved to win,” Sottil stated in his post-match press conference.
“Playing here is never easy, Empoli is a well-managed team that are tough to break down. I therefore have to applaud the lads for a deserved victory against an opponent that fought until the end.”
He continued, “Towards the end I urged the team to keep pushing and do whatever they can to manage the last few minutes.”
“I thought we played some good football today. We created a lot of chances and thankfully ended up finding a goal.”
“When you go so long without winning, you tend to drop your head and lose some of your self-esteem, which is normal.”
“Ultimately though we showed the right spirit today to find a win and secure the three points. Once again I have to compliment the team that showed the spirit of a tight-knit, united group.”
