United Shift Focus to Ugarte as Rabiot Move Unlikely: Report

IF24 Desk

Manchester United is reportedly interested in acquiring midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who recently became a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Red Devils have been eyeing Rabiot for some time now, with a previous attempt to sign him falling through due to salary disagreements.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League, with both United and Liverpool being mentioned as potential destinations. However, clubs in La Liga, particularly Real Madrid and Barcelona, are also keeping tabs on Rabiot’s situation.

Despite United’s previous interest in Rabiot, it seems unlikely that they will make a move for him now. The club’s focus has shifted towards signing players who have the potential to improve the team, with the recent acquisitions of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro. Manuel Ugarte, a 23-year-old midfielder, is now a priority target for United due to his defensive abilities and distribution skills.

While Rabiot may offer more creativity compared to Ugarte, United’s current strategy prioritizes defensive solidity in front of the back four. Negotiations with the French champions for Ugarte’s transfer are underway, indicating that United is unlikely to revive their pursuit of Rabiot unless there is a specific request from manager Erik ten Hag for another midfielder.
