Fiorentina is set to welcome a new defender, with reports indicating that Boca Juniors’ rising star Nicolas Valentini is scheduled to undergo a medical examination in Argentina tomorrow. The player will undergo tests with local doctors in his home country.
Valentini’s contract with Boca Juniors is due to expire on December 31, but the club is keen to secure a deal for him this summer at a reduced cost rather than wait six months for him to become a free agent.
Despite interest from other clubs such as Roma, Hellas Verona, Como, Cagliari, Lazio, and Atalanta, Valentini seems to have reached an agreement on personal terms with Fiorentina. The 23-year-old has represented Argentina at the Under-23 level with eight caps and has also been called up to the senior squad, although he is yet to make an appearance.
Due to his Italian heritage, Fiorentina will be able to register Valentini as an EU player, allowing them to avoid using one of their limited non-EU slots in the squad.
